Monique Tellier
Animal-Assisted Therapist; BSW, MSW, RSW, CCAATP
Monique joins the Lil’ Steps team with experience as a Divisional School Social Worker educating children about mental health and providing opportunities for students to learn, practice, and utilize positive coping tools. Monique has also worked with children with a variety of needs including anxiety, ADHD, separation/divorce, self-harm, attachment, social skills, and friendships. Through individual, group, or classroom work, Monique enjoys watching children flourish while finding their inner and outer strengths as they navigate the world.
The incredible relationship, trust, and confidence-building that developed in children after spending time with her co-worker Finn (the Standard Poodle) led Monique to further explore ways that animals can contribute to the well-being and overall positive mental health of children. In July 2021, Monique completed the Fundamentals of CCAATP (Child-Centered Animal Assisted Therapy Program) course. She is now on track to complete her certification as a Child-Centered Animal-Assisted Therapist by the end of August 2022.
Monique has a Masters of Clinical Social Work (U of M) and membership in the Manitoba College of Social Workers. She has experience in the area of residential and community mental health and has worked with individuals who have experienced trauma, disruption of attachment, and mental health crisis.
Monique has additional training in attachment-based models of intervention such as Theraplay.
Monique believes every child has the capacity to work through their challenges when they are provided with a safe environment and trusting relationship to do the work. She is looking forward to being a positive contributor at Lil’ Steps by helping all children see their strengths by providing opportunities for growth.
