Khanya Sibanda
Therapist; RSW
Khanya is a Registered Social Worker with more than 10 years experience in the Mental Health field. Serving as a Community Connector, Youth Intensive Counsellor, Recreational Therapist, and Direct Support Worker, he gained extensive experience supporting children, youth, young adults, and families.
With an anti-oppressive lens and trauma-informed approach, Khanya believes in the power of people’s resiliency. He finds that when we take someone’s historical context and the impact of generational trauma into consideration, it makes the work with clients more nuanced, holistic, and meaningful. Khanya believes that a journey of deep sustainable change and wellness requires an understanding of the context of someone’s lived experience, and it is from this that he has shaped his clinical approach.
Khanya has an eclectic approach to his practice including Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Anti-oppression Practice (AOP).
Khanya is a first-generation immigrant; his parents migrated from Zimbabwe. He was born and raised in the USA and emigrated to Manitoba in his teens. Khanya coaches a non-profit development basketball club, whose goal is inclusivity and community first.
